The Galion Public Library will be celebrating National Library week all week long with an activity for patrons each day from April 14th-19th.

The week kicks off on Monday, April 14, with a Bookmark Design Contest. Templates and rules will be available at the main desk. Judging will take place on Friday, April 19, and the winner will be announced. The winner will receive a $25 gift card and their entry will be copied and distributed to patrons. Small prizes will be given to the 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Submissions may be dropped off at the Galion Public Library, 123 N. Market St., during library hours throughout National Library Week: Monday, April 14 – Friday, April 19, 2014.

On Tuesday, April 15, a jar of candy will be located at the front desk all day. Patrons are invited to guess the number of candies in the jar. The first correct answer we pull will win the jar of delicious sweets.

Wednesday, April 16, is our Blind Date With a Book day. Staff members select some of their favorite books, which will get wrapped in plain paper (bearing only the staff member’s name who picked the book) with the bar code revealed for the check-out scan – so it will be a surprise for the patron when they get home.

On Thursday, April 17, quotes taken from books will be displayed. Patrons can guess which book the quotes are from on a provided sheet. Whoever gets the most correct answers wins a $10 gift card.

Friday, April 18, is Letter to a Librarian day. Patrons will be provided with paper on which to write their thoughts about the library and its staff, how we’ve helped them, how the library has impacted their lives, etc. Some of these will be shared on book-end displays.

Saturday, April 19 will bring National Library Week to a close by giving back to you, our patrons. Cake and lemonade will be served across from the main desk from 1 – 4 p.m. to any patrons who drop by.
At this time, the winning bookmarks will also be ready for the taking. Signs congratulating the week’s winners will also be on display around the refreshment area.
