GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Galion Kiwanis Club has launched its latest community service initiative, “The Hungry Are Banking on You!”, a city-wide food drive designed to easily collect non-perishable items for the Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission (OHCAC) Food Pantry.

To make donating accessible for residents, grocery carts have been placed at several local financial institutions: Firelands Federal Credit Union, First Federal Bank of Ohio, GBL Bank, and Park National Bank.

The project was the idea of Kiwanis member Jody Fraley, who sought to create a simple and visible way for the Galion community to support neighbors facing food insecurity. Fraley, along with fellow members Carrie Cottrell, Kalina Traxler, Mikayla Johnson, Chris Cochran, and Joe Clime, coordinated the effort with local banks and established the donation sites.

“The response from our local banks and the community has been incredible,” said Fraley. “It’s heartwarming to see how quickly everyone stepped up to help.”

Galion’s Save A Lot store donated the grocery carts being used for the drive, contributing essential equipment to the community effort.

The Galion Kiwanis Club will be accepting non-perishable food donations throughout the month of November at all participating bank locations.

Monetary donations are also welcomed and can be made securely through PayPal using a QR code featured on the event flyer.

“Every donation — big or small — helps make a difference,” said Tammy Crabtree, OHCAC Crawford County Center Director. “Your generosity ensures that local families have access to nutritious meals when they need them most.”

For more information, including arranging a pickup for larger donations, residents can contact any Galion Kiwanis member or visit the club’s Facebook page.
