GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Galion Kiwanis Club has announced the return of its community initiative, “Take a Coat • Leave a Coat,” for a second year to help residents stay warm throughout the winter.
The coat rack, which operates on a simple premise, is located at the pavilion of First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West, and is open to anyone in need. The judgment-free program allows neighbors to take a coat if they need one and leave a coat if they have one to share.
“It’s been heartwarming to see how something so simple can make such a big difference,” said Kiwanis member Jody Fraley, who initially conceived the idea last year. “The community really embraced it last year, and we’re thrilled to continue the effort. No one should have to choose between staying warm and going without.”
Fellow Kiwanis members Chris Buckingham Taylor and Brian Treisch helped launch the program in 2024 by building and installing the permanent rack at the church pavilion.
The “Take a Coat • Leave a Coat” rack is accessible anytime. Those wishing to donate clean, gently used coats can drop them off directly at the rack. For those needing assistance with a larger donation pickup, the club encourages them to contact a Galion Kiwanis member.
The club urged residents to help keep the rack full this winter, ensuring that no one in Galion goes cold. The program highlights the Kiwanis mission of strengthening communities and improving the lives of others.
