Press release
Every year in the fall, Galion High School students gear up for the annual Homecoming festivities. And this year is no exception with a full slate of activities for students, alumni and the community.
Activities begin with a Homecoming Pep Rally and Bonfire from 6-8 p.m. at the football practice fields behind Unckrich Stadium Oct. 13. The Connections Weekend Career Day at the Galion Middle School will be held throughout the school day Oct. 14. Galion alumni will share their career experiences and insights with high school and middle school students in small, intimate group settings.
Later that evening, the 2016 Galion Homecoming Queen will be announced prior to kickoff of the varsity football game against Fairbanks Oct. 14. The Galion Alumni Band will perform with the Tiger Marching Band during halftime, and Alumni Cheerleaders will be cheering on the Tigers with the Varsity cheerleading squad.
“Our students have a tremendous opportunity to network with alumni during Homecoming thanks to the tireless work of our Connections Weekend committee,” High School Principal Ron Williams said. “We are very fortunate to have alumni who not only enjoy coming home to Galion, but are proud to come back and work with our students to help them in their future endeavors.”
The Homecoming festivities conclude for alumni with the annual Alumni Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony. This year’s class includes: Gail Dull (Class of 1903), William R. Durtschi (Class of 1940), Kevin D. Arnold (Class of 1975), Scott Palmer (Class of 1981), Ricky L. Jobe (Class of 1982), Jim Wegesin (Educator). The dinner begins at 6 p.m. in the Galion Middle School cafetorium Saturday, Oct. 15.
“Homecoming Weekend is a very special time for our students, staff and community,” Superintendent Jim Grubbs said. “School spirit is at its highest during homecoming week and we hope our community will get involved in the celebration!”
The Homecoming festivities will conclude for students with the annual Galion Homecoming Dance Oct. 15 in the Galion High School gymnasium.
