GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Galion History Center proudly marks its 70th anniversary this year, celebrating seven decades of preserving and promoting the rich history of Galion and its surrounding areas. Originally established as the Galion Historical Society by Dr. Bernard Mansfield and dedicated community members in March of 1955, the organization has evolved while staying true to its mission: preserving and promoting Galion history by honoring the past, enriching the present, and inspiring the future.
As part of this milestone year, the Galion History Center is launching its first Annual Appeal after switching from a membership format to a donor format, inviting individuals, businesses, and organizations to contribute toward sustaining and expanding its historical preservation efforts, educational initiatives, and community programming.
“With the support of our community, we can continue to bring Galion’s history to life through community programming and educational opportunities on our campus, as well as preserve our buildings and historic collection,” said Tanesha Pickering, Executive Director. “Community support has made all the difference in the success of the Galion History Center over the past seventy years. A coalition of countless people giving their money, time, and resources to the betterment of Galion history is the reason our organization is still here and thriving in 2025!”
The funds raised through this year’s appeal will directly support:
- Education & Inspiration – Welcoming visitors to four historical buildings, offering hands-on learning experiences for students through field trips and interactive programs.
- Community Engagement – Unique events such as Uptowne Prohibition Galion walking tours, Murder Mystery CLUE at Brownella Cottage, and other immersive storytelling experiences.
- Memorable Experiences – Book signings, museum exhibits, cocktail pairing tours, and family-friendly events like Trick-Or-Treat After Dark, making history engaging for all ages.
