GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Galion Service Department is gearing up for its annual leaf collection program, set to commence on Monday, October 30. City residents are encouraged to participate in this community effort by raking their fallen leaves into the tree lawn in front of their homes, making it easier for the city to collect and dispose of the foliage.
To ensure efficient leaf collection throughout the city, Galion’s Service Department has organized crews to go through each ward once every week. It’s important to note that once a crew has visited your street, they will not return until the following week. This schedule will help the department manage resources effectively and serve all residents in a timely manner.
As part of the leaf collection process, the Galion Service Department has outlined some guidelines for residents to follow. Firstly, please avoid placing leaves in the road or over storm drains, as this can impede drainage and create safety hazards. The Service Department also reserves the right to skip leaf piles that are obstructed by parked vehicles or piled around utility poles and signposts.
Residents are kindly requested to refrain from including branches, wood chips, or other yard waste materials with the leaves. Mixing these items in with the leaf piles can damage the collection equipment and slow down the process.
For those who have yard waste materials that cannot be collected by the city, an alternative solution is available. On November 17 and 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., residents may take their yard waste to the Taylor Road Composting Facility. This facility is designed to handle yard waste and ensure its proper disposal, serving as a convenient option for those in need of additional disposal services.
