Galion City Council’s Laws, Ordinances, Permits and Zoning Committee devoted its meeting on Tuesday to what the city was going to charge to rent city-owned facilities. This included the East Park cabin, the Big Four Depot Pavilion, the Amann Reservoir shelter house, and the renting of Splash Park.

The first order of business was discussing the down payment required to rent the East Park cabin. In the past, anyone who desired renting the space had to pay a $25 security deposit on top of the $30 rental. However, as it was taking longer to get the deposits back, and there was no way of knowing who may cause potential damage, the committee decided to do away with the deposit and set the rental fee to $55. This notion was passed unanimously.

The second order of business was deciding on the cost to rent the new Big Four Depot pavilion when it opens. The committee decided to table the decision until next month. When asked, however, they will inform prospective renters that they are looking at roughly $150 to rent the space. This amount is only in interim, and after research, the committee will elaborate again and adjust accordingly next month. The decision to table the decision and set the interim amount faced no oppositions.

Third on the agenda, and the quickest to pass, was deciding on the rental fee for the Amann Reservoir shelter house. It was easily and unanimously determined that the cost of renting this property would be equal to renting the East Park cabin.

The last item was the rental of Galion’s new Splash Park. The committee felt that as a newer attraction in town, copious amounts of families would want to have parties for their children there. An issue that was volleyed around by the members was the fact that they did not want to close the park during prime daytime hours, as that would not be fair to other members of the community. It was temporarily decided, dependent on the public’s reaction and certain authorizations, that the park could be rented from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a rate of $100 for two hours. The park would remain open to the public from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This motion also passed with no oppositions.
