The Galion City Schools Board of Education approved expenditures of nearly a quarter million dollars to go towards the One-to-One program for the coming school year. The final implementation of the program, which costs a total of $348,182, will purchase 260 laptops for the One-to-One program, as well as server support, and software.

After Superintendent Kathy Jenney’s presentation outlining the program, and the fees involved, Board President Dennis Long said, “This program was never meant to replace staff. It was meant as an augment to provide opportunities for students in order to curb open enrollment loses.”

The Galion Board of Education approved recalling the contracts of elementary music teacher Jennifer Eachus, and intervention specialist Angela Brocwell for the 2013-2014 school year. The staff members had been placed on the staff reduction list as a way to help save on expenditures.

Collective bargaining agreements with the Galion Education Association, and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees were tabled until a special meeting on Friday, June 28. The agreements were tabled to allow the school board to review the agreements before voting on them.

The next scheduled Galion Board of Education meeting will be a special meeting at 7 a.m. on June 28 in the junior high library. The purpose will be to revise appropriations from the past school year, make new appropriations for the 2013-2014 school year, as well as vote on the tabled collective bargaining agreements.
