It is said that to whom much is given, much is expected. In a small community like Galion, it takes everyone working together to help those less fortunate than us. Prior to the start of a district-wide in-service Oct. 24, Galion City School District teachers and staff contributed non-perishable items for a food drive to support the Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission.
“The Food Service department tries to organize a district-wide community project at least once a year,” Food Service Supervisor Jacki Corona said. “We have done this specific project previously and received a great response from the staff, and this year was no different.”
Thanks to the generosity of the teachers and staff, the district was able to deliver 100 items to a very grateful staff at the Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission. The organization provides many services to Galion residents in need, and has had a long-standing partnership with the district to provide a weekend meal program for students in Galion.
“On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to personally thank the Food Service department for organizing a successful community service project,” Superintendent Mark Stefanik said. “Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission is a vital resource in Galion because it directly provides assistance to families of our students, and I am proud of the staff for showing their generosity.”
