GALION - Galion City Council voted and passed an ordinance to spend more than $250,000 during a brief meeting Tuesday evening.

Council declared an emergency reading to pass an ordinance to accept bids for the 2017 paving season.

The largest estimated cost of the group of projects is for slightly more than 2,000 feet of road on Fairview Road on the north end of Galion. The stretch of street is expected to cost more than $60,000.

The estimate provided to council estimates 13 streets will require work on approximately 9,700 feet of road.

The ordinance states it was passed on emergency status in order “to preserve the public peace, health, safety and welfare of the city of Galion and its inhabitants.” It also gave council the ability to begin the bidding process to repair damaged streets within the paving season.
