Ward 2 currently has no representative at the Galion City Council table following Wednesday’s sudden resignation of Steve Rowan. Rowan resigned in the midst of a meeting of the City Council’s Utility Committee.
In a video of the meeting broadcast by Live Stream Galion, Rowan became agitated during a discussion over running city utilities to annexed property on the east side of the city near the Ohio 61 and U.S. 30 interchange.
Council member Mike Richart and Mayor Tom O’Leary have taken the position the city cannot afford to run water and other utilities to the property owners there as promised when it was annexed in 2003. Rowan was instrumental in the effort to annex the area.
However, after waiting 10 years or more for those utilities those property owners asked to be detached from Galion to pursue an agreement with Crestline.
