The Galion City Council met Tuesday evening, mainly to address citizen concerns and legislation.
After passing the minutes from the previous meeting, two citizens requested to speak. The first was George Sutton, concerned about flooding issues on 400 Harding Way West and Gill Avenue. His concerns are the complaints from his tenants on the high-water level and the fact he cannot fix it himself. Mayor Tom O’Leary addressed the man, saying as soon as money is appropriated into the storm water fund, it will be fixed.
The next speaker was Marcia Yunker, who was speaking on behalf of the Galion Historical Society. Yunker stated that the mission of the society is to “preserve and share” history, and hopes to accomplish that further by obtaining funds from the Freese Foundation to help make the Historic Grace Church handicap accessible, as opposed to completely depleting their own funds designated to preserving history. She requested that this project be added to the other Freese Grant projects, like the repairs to the tennis court. The council amended the ordinance regarding the Freese Grant Projects (2017-14) to include her request.
On the legislation side, Ordinance No. 2017-14 was passed on its third reading, as did Ordinance No. 2017-15. Also passed was Ordinance No. 2017-8, though it was only on its first reading. This ordinance regards appointing Heath Watkins to the board of trustees of the Egbert M. Freese Foundation. All ordinances passed with a 6-0 vote.
After brief reports from an elected official and Mayor O’Leary, the meeting was adjourned early.
