Galion City Council tackled a busy legislative agenda on Tuesday evening that focused a great deal of attention on city parks and facilities.

The first to pass were two ordinances on their third reading. The first was Ordinance No. 2017-10, or the YMCA Agreement. This authorized the Safety Service Director to enter into an agreement with the city of Galion and the Galion YMCA in regards to the operation of Heise Pool for the summer of 2017. The second was Ordinance No. 2017-11, which amended the rules for distributing funds given by the Egbert M. Freese Foundation. This passed with a 6-1 vote.

Two ordinances were declared emergencies and passed on their first readings. These were Ordinance No. 2017-14 and Ordinance No. 2017-15. Ordinance No. 2017-14 requested the trustees of the Egbert M. Freese Foundation to distribute $199,137 to the city of Galion for repairs to the tennis court at Heise Park and the Amann reservoir restrooms, and $5,250 for the Galion YMCA pool upgrades. Ordinance No. 2017-15 was in reference to the recent decisions of the Laws, Ordinances, Permits, and Zoning Committee to set fees on the renting of the East Park Cabin, Amann Shelter House, and Splash Park. Both ordinances were finalized with no oppositions.

Ordinance No. 2017-13 was on its second reading, and also passed. This was addressing the amendment of Ordinance No. 2016-106. The amendments were that $4,000 be given to Law Enforcement Training; Security of Persons and Property; Police Department/Contractual Services; and Registration and Training. Also, that $9,000 be transferred into multiple areas of the Airport Fund. Resolution No. 2017-6, also on its second reading and regarding the obtaining of purchase orders, was finalized as well.

After short reports from the elected officials and Mayor Tom O’Leary, the meeting was adjourned early.
