The Galion City School District Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting and regular monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 9. During the organizational meeting, Mr. Brian Carson was selected to serve as Board President, while Mrs. Jennifer Kuns was selected to serve as Vice President during the 2017 calendar year.
After approving all required items during the organizational meeting, the board proceeded to the regular meeting agenda for January, which began with the recognition of Connor Moreton, who was named 1st team All-Ohio for the 2016 football season.
The board then held a public discussion about the calendar for the 2017-2018 school year. While the item was not immediately approved by the board, it will be on the agenda for another review during the regular meeting in February.
“The comments we received during the public discussion led us to an understanding that we need to rethink our school calendar for 2017-2018,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “The administration and staff will work together to develop a school calendar that will be beneficial to students, staff and the community.”
The board moved to approve all items as presented after the school calendar discussion. The next regular meeting of the Galion City School District Board of Education will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School computer lab Monday, February 13.
