Fresh off of Election Day Tuesday, area Republicans gathered together at the Elkhorn Lake Hunt Club Thursday for the Century Club Dinner. One of the evening’s highlights was naming the top local Republican.
Galion attorney Michael Bear was announced as the Crawford County Republican of the Year by Municipal Court Judge Sean Leuthold.
Bear expressed his appreciation for the honor.
“I’m really thankful for it and appreciate those who picked me for it,” Bear said.
Bear explained his work with the Republican Party over the past year.
“This year I was just admitted as an attorney last November so this is about the one-year mark. Most of this year has been trying to build up on the private sector,” Bear said. “I did work on Rob Ratliff’s campaign so we just won that election by a good margin I was quite happy. But most of it has just been work and try to build up work.”
Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges was the keynote speaker of the dinner. In his speech Borges stressed the importance of the 2014 and 2016 elections.
“We have to be on the offensive, looking for alternative methods of getting the conservative word out,” Borges said.
The proceeds of the Crawford County Republican Century Club Dinner will go towards local Republican Party candidates’ election campaigns.
