MARION—Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogran announced the fate of an Upper Sandusky man who led police on a high-speed chase through three counties on July 14th.
Jeffrey Purvis videoed the chase and posted it live on Facebook. He pleaded guilty in the Marion County Common Pleas Court last week to one count of failure to comply, a third-degree felony. Purvis was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
On his Facebook page, Prosecutor Grogan made this announcement:
“Purvis’ actions on July 14th put many innocent drivers and law enforcement officers in harm’s way. His brazen attempts to make light of his actions by broadcasting them on social media is absolutely ridiculous. He could have killed somebody. Thankfully law enforcement officers kept following him, and eventually, he was stopped.” Grogan said.
Purvis lost control of his vehicle, and it came to rest on the on-ramp at US 23 and US 309. The car caught on fire.
Upon arrest, Purvis admitted to smoking marijuana and methamphetamines prior to the chase.
Suspected methamphetamines were found in the car.
Grogan thanked officers from Upper Sandusky, the Ohio Highway Patrol, and Assistant Prosecutor Justin Frey for their work on the case.
