Born and raised in Bucyrus, singer/song-writer Rob Skaggs has taken his passion to Nashville and is growing. That same passion, and hopes for a “home court advantage,” brings Skaggs back to town.
A graduate of Bucyrus High School, Skaggs talks about how he has always loved music.
“Music has always been a deep passionate part of me. I remember as a small child as far back as 5- or 6- years-old, being at my grandma’s house with headphones on listening to music until I couldn’t keep my eyes open,” Skaggs said. “In high school I was in the choir, show choir and participated in the performing arts as well. My entire life I have known that I wanted to be involved in music as well as acting.”
After graduating high school, Skaggs continued his love for music and went on to major in Music and Acting at the University of Findlay. Once finishing college he formed his own band, and decided it was time to try to make it big so he moved to Nashville.
Being a talented vocalist, guitar player, and song-writer makes for a top-quality show. His sound alone, a mix between traditional country, modern country and southern rock, reaches and entertains a wide crowd. Gracing the honky-tonks of Nashville with his talent and hard work, he eventually got the attention of some of Nashville’s most elite.
Not only did Skaggs’ sound become familiar to his crowds, his face did as well when he dabbled in some acting gigs as well. In 2010, Skaggs got a role in the Christian feature film “Redemption Ride”. The movie received great reviews and was nominated for Best Feature Film at the 2010 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival (as The Free Ride).
Having a role in the movie was not the only part Skaggs got to play, however. He also wrote a song for the movie called, “If You Open Your Heart to Jesus.” Skaggs’ song can be heard during the movie as well as on the movie’s soundtrack.
The road then got rocky for Skaggs as his mother conquered two cancers and battled a third that she could not win. His time was devoted to helping her. After she passed, Skaggs began focusing on his music once again.
Since then, his career has taken off. This past April, Skaggs released his first album, which is currently available for purchase on his website. His career speed has been picking up, as he plays a minimum of five shows per week at some of the best honky-tonks in Nashville. He also got the honor of being a feature artist in an edition of The Nashville Music Guide magazine.
Skaggs will tackle the next step in his career right in his hometown tonight.
His new release, “The Truth”, will be the song featured in a music video scheduled to be filmed tonight at Dillinger’s Event Center. Skaggs will be filming the video along with Rayback Outdoors LLC. All ages 11 and under and 18 and over are welcome to come and be in the video.
The doors open at 6 p.m. and filming starts at 8. Live music with Skaggs and special guests Exploit is to take place after the filming is complete.
Skaggs had some special requests for those who attend the filming this evening. If you have boots or a Rob Skaggs T-shirt, wear them. If not come anyways, the more people the better. An admission fee of $3 will be collected at the door.
