In the fifth week of high school football, the county was celebrating homecomings and the Copper Kettle, with Galion continuing to remain undefeated under the lights of Friday night.
In the thirty-fifth meeting for the Copper Kettle the Bucyrus Wynford rivalry gained new life as the Wynford Royals survived the Bucyrus Redmen 41-40. Bucyrus scored the last touchdown of the game to pull within one point of Wynford, however instead of forcing the game into overtime with a PAT, the Redmen elected to go for a two point conversion, but came up short ensuring a sixteenth straight victory by the Royals.
Brock Williamson led the Royals in passing and rushing, gaining 154 yards on the ground on 22 attempts for 2 touchdowns, and going 4-12 in the air with 80 yards and another score. Keaton Teynor was the Royals’ leading receiver, catching the rock 2 times for 70 yards and 2 Touchdowns.
Cole Murtiff led Bucyrus’ offensive attack going 15-22 in the air for 219 yards and 3 TD’s. Tyler Zehring led the Redmen in receiving yards with one catch, a 75 yard touchdown reception. Colin Light led Bucyrus on the ground going 104 yards on 10 attempts.
Wynford now holds a 23-13 advantage over Bucyrus in Copper Kettle Bragging rights.
The Galion Tigers remained undefeated crushing the Crestline Bulldogs 63-8 in the homecoming game for the Tigers.
Alex Armistad led the Tigers in passing throwing 10-21 for 262 yards and a touchdown. Armistad also led on the ground with 7 carries for 174 yards and a score. Darian Watkins was the Tigers leading receiver with 3 catches for 142 yards, and scoring three times on rushes of 81, 15, and 55 yards.
Crestline’s lone touchdown came on a run from the Bulldog’s Michael Forwith who also led the team in rushing taking 13 rushes for 23 yards. Chase Cook led the Bulldogs in receiving going 7 catches for 87 yards. Lee Hurst led the Bulldogs in the air going 2-3 for 67 yards.
Colonel Crawford won their homecoming game against up the road rival Buckeye Central 38-13.
The Eagles scored most of their points on the ground with five touchdowns coming off of rushes. Will Kirkpatrick lead the way with 87 yards on 2 rushes and 1 score. Nate Klingenberger led the Eagles offense in the air going 12-24 for 166 yards and a touchdown. Klingenberger also scored twice running the ball. Nick Adams led Eagles receivers catching 7 passes for 83 yards.
Alec Balldozer led Buckeye Central’s offensive attack carrying the ball 27 times for 117 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Tyler Trapp bounced back from a one completion performance last week going 6-8 through the air for 88 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Hernstein led the Buckeye Central receivers with 3 receptions for 74 yards and a score.
