BUCYRUS―Crawford County Public Health and Community Counseling Services, Inc. are collaborating on providing free wellness assessments and blood pressure screenings for all ages. These free services are being provided at no cost to clients in acknowledgment that many Crawford County families are dealing with stressful situations and may not be aware of the effects stress and anxiety can play on their health.

Every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, free wellness assessments will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. with no appointment needed at Crawford County Public Health, 1520 Isaac Beal Rd., in Bucyrus.

Cindy Wallis, Executive Director of Community Counseling Services, Inc. is overseeing these efforts to provide free wellness assessment to our area.

According to Wallis, “Depression, anxiety disorder, and feelings of being overwhelmed by life can affect a wide variety of members of our community. Whether they are professionals with high-demanding jobs, single parents juggling work and family life, or grandparents unexpectedly playing a large part in raising grandchildren, our health can be affected by high blood pressure, stress, depression, and other mental health conditions.”

The 2019 Crawford County Community Health Assessment that surveyed local residents found that 30 percent of Crawford County Adults rated their mental health as not good on four or more days in the past month and that 40 percent have high blood pressure.

Kate Siefert, Health Commissioner at Crawford County Public Health, is pleased to work with Community Counseling Services, Inc. to ensure free assessments are available in the area.

“High blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke – the number one cause of death in Crawford County,” said Siefert.  “While oftentimes there are physical factors that play into heart disease, such as diet and exercise, we recognize that stress and anxiety can also impact your health and blood pressure. We encourage all ages to take advantage of these free assessments.”
