The holidays quickly came to an end for one area family after a fire destroyed a garage and damaged a home Saturday morning.
The Holmes Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 4:45 a.m. Saturday where they discovered smoke coming out of a garage at 4591 Ohio 4, just north of Bucyrus.
Jay Scott, a captain for the Holmes Township Volunteer Fire Department, reported that his crew worked on the fire for roughly four hours before putting a stop to it. Ninety percent of the fire damage was found in the garage, Scott added, while the remaining fire damage was done to the insulation above the kitchen. The rest of the home, which is owned by Randy Snyder, sustained water and smoke damage.
There were no injuries reported at the time.
Though the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Scott said they have ruled out any suspicious activity.
The Liberty, Chatfield, and Lykens township volunteer fire departments also assisted at the scene.
