BUCYRUS―Four candidates are vying for three council-at-large positions on the Bucyrus City Council in Tuesday’s General Election.

Incumbents Kevin Myers and Mark Makeever are running to keep their positions and newcomers Karl Eichler and James Mee are on the ballot for a chance to serve the citizens of Bucyrus.

Myers, an insurance agent with the Andrew Schoch Nationwide Insurance Agency, said he wants to continue in his position for another term.

“I have very much enjoyed serving the citizens in my first term,” said Myers, who heads up the council’s health and safety committee. “I want to see the city of Bucyrus thrive and succeed.”

Mark Makeever, who heads up the council’s platting committee, said he is running for re-election to ensure things are going the way citizens want them to.

“I am here for the citizens of our city,” Makeever said.

Newcomer Karl Eichler, who operates a plumbing, heating and cooling business in Bucyrus, said he has ideas to help the city grow and would like the chance to serve the citizens as a council member.

James Mee, who was unable to attend a recent Candidate’s Night due to undergoing surgery, said he wants to become a council member because of his experience.

“I have a lot I can offer the city of Bucyrus, from taking bids from contractors to cutting wasteful spending,” said Mee.

Mee, who was born in Bucyrus, said he has 39 years of experience working for a major corporation in Bucyrus along with operating a part-time business he started with his father in 1980 renovating properties.

“My family and I have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in Bucyrus because we believe in this community,” said Mee.

Mee said some of his goals for the city include trying to make utility bills affordable so younger people will stay in Bucyrus and the older generation can afford them.

He said the city administration should focus on growing and retaining the population by bringing more jobs to the city.
