GALION―In the few months since the Galion City Civil Service Commission upheld his termination, former Galion Police Chief Marc Rodriquez has filed a civil lawsuit against the city of Galion.

Rodriquez has retained Hilliard attorney Gary Reeve to represent him in the civil action. Reeve specializes in wrongful termination. He is certified in labor and employment law. According to his law website, Reeve has over 200 trial-level cases and 40 appeals during his career.

Rodriquez was terminated as Chief when an investigation after the resignation of a female dispatcher in August of 2022.

In her letter of resignation, she made several allegations against Rodriguez.

He was first suspended on December 22, 2022.

In part, the report said: “although Rodriguez did not recognize that supervisors are to be held to a higher standard, due to the responsibilities of the chief of police, or Lieutenant, it is appropriate to expect those individuals selected to fill those positions to be held to a higher standard.”

The Commission upheld the termination after Rodriquez appealed his suspension.

The order said that the “conduct unbecoming” was proven by a preponderance of the evidence. The order says Rodriguez acted inappropriately toward females while he was a Lieutenant and later as Chief.

Full details of the lawsuit are not available on the public record.
