I just wanted to inform the citizens that I am totally okay with not winning the Law Director seat this election. This change of government was never about putting any particular candidate in office; and it certainly was never about my wanting to be Law Director of the City of Galion. This change of City government was about setting up a City government that works for the benefit of the citizens. Just keep in mind that those 558 votes for Dayne (Charter supporters) would automatically be voting for my opponent, no matter who it was. I will never have any support from that proCharter group.
My only concern is will we be able to get this City government functioning for the benefit of the citizens. We have had criticism from people (whose opinions I value and respect) that our ‘new’ City government isn’t any better than the ‘old’ City government.
I don’t know if the Charter supporters will ever go away, as they have been very active for over a year now. And the next elections (Council President, Council Members, and Treasurer) are only two (2) years away (2015), not four (4) years away. Therefore, we need to be concerned that we can show some real results, prior to spring 2015, when candidates start to pick up their petitions. We also need to be concerned that we have responsible candidates for all positions. How can you expect a responsible City government if you don’t have responsible candidates?
If we don’t address these issues, we open ourselves to yet another Charter supporters’ political strategy of some sort. At this point, we have spent a lot of time and money on this changing of our City government, and we definitely want to see this succeed.
Lastly, I want to thank the citizens for their interest and support.
