The trial of 58-year-old Brian Brown for attempted murder is scheduled to begin this morning in Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

The charge is a first-degree felony with a maximum penalty of 11 years in prison. In addition the charge against the former lieutenant with the Galion Fire Department also includes a firearms specification. That carries another automatic three-year prison term meaning if convicted Brown could be sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison.

The incident occurred last May 2. Brown’s live-in girlfriend, 51-year-old Shelly Fry was shot six times at the couple’s home on South Union Street. Brown was captured by Galion police following a pursuit in a vehicle and on foot. Fry survived following surgery at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Judge Russell Wiseman will hear the case which is scheduled for today and tomorrow. Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall will try the case and Brown will be represented by Shane Leuthold.
