Though Paws Walk is a way to raise funds for the Humane Society Serving Crawford County, for many who showed up it was a way to give back to the organization that helped their furry friend find its forever home.

Judy Watts and Keith Vinson have had Goliath for nearly two months now and couldn’t be happier to have adopted him into their family. The 163-pound mastiff-mix had been a resident at the Humane Society when Watts heard about him through an acquaintance. It was all over when Watts, and later Vinson, caught a look of the lovable pup.

“He’s a gentle giant,” Vinson said. “Whenever he hears kids, he sits there and watches them and whines.

“You got to take pity on a dog that’s in the pound and it’s not at fault. He just took to me like I was his long lost buddy.”

Watts and Vinson had also adopted a Great Dane-mix named Sophie from the Humane Society. They also thought it would be a great idea to bring Goliath back to show everyone how he was doing.

“Bring him back here (and) let people see him that knew him and fell in love with him. And it’s a good cause,” Vinson said.

“I think I’ve about adopted all of my dogs from the Humane Society,” said Watts.

Humane Society Director Victoria Carmean explained how money will be spent that is raised at Paws Walk.

“Money that is being raised at today’s event will be spent right here in Crawford County and it goes towards our general maintenance and care of the animals,” Carmean said. “We are also trying to start a fundraising process for a new vehicle.”

The Humane Society’s vehicle is nearing 16 years old and will need replacing soon.

“Part of the money will also go towards helping that as well,” Carmean explained. “But it’s just basically general care and the maintenance of the building. All of our fundraisers go towards this shelter. They don’t get handed out to anybody else and they stay right here in Crawford County to help take care of our pets right here.”

Anyone wishing to donate to the Humane Society to help raise funds for a new vehicle can write a check or use a credit card at www.crawfordhumane.com and note that it is for the new vehicle.
