BUCYRUS―Disposing of a flag properly that is worn or unserviceable is important and to assist local residents in this process, the American Legion Post 181 in Bucyrus will host a Flag Disposal Ceremony on Friday, June 14.

The event is being held in observation of Flag Day and will begin at 6:30 p.m.at the Dapper Cabin located at Hannah Crawford Elementary School, 5444 Crestline Rd., Crestline, OH 44827.

According to members of the American Legion, proper American flag etiquette states that worn or non-serviceable flags should be disposed of in a correct and dignified manner. As such, when a flag has served its useful purpose it should be destroyed, preferably by burning.

The public, especially scouting groups, is invited to attend this event and is encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Anyone wishing to retire a flag may place it in the drop box located in front of the American Legion, 123 E Rensselaer St. Bucyrus, OH 44820.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be postponed until Wednesday, June 19, 2019, with the location and time remaining the same.
