Re-ignition of a Chatfield house fire sent fire crews racing back to the location Monday morning to battle a blaze for another round.

The home, which had caught fire Saturday night, re-ignited once again Monday morning drawing crews from Chatfield, Lykens, Attica, New Washington, and Liberty and Holmes volunteer fire departments back to the scene to keep the fire under control, and from spreading to other structures.

According to Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jeremy Dunn, no one was at the home during Monday’s blaze, and while occupants were home during Saturday’s fire, no injuries were reported in either case.

“This is the same house as Saturday,” Dunn said. “This is the fourth or fifth time that we have been here since then. No one was home today, and everyone was out of the house when crews arrived Saturday. There were no injuries from Saturday. We will be here all day to make sure there won’t be another re-ignition.”

Dunn also noted that he believed that the initial fire may have been started from a wood burner, however he hadn’t been able to investigate the initial fire with the flames becoming rekindled numerous times.
