Area firefighters had two structure fires to contend with on a windy Wednesday afternoon in Bucyrus and Sulphur Springs.

IMG_8003Liberty Township Fire Department led the effort of six responding departments in the fight to save a single family home at 4493 State Route 98. There were no injuries reported, however, the house is considered a total loss. Liberty Township Fire Department reported that no one was at home at the time of the fire.

The fire remains under investigation.

The garage to an abandoned two-story house at 317 South East Street caught fire Wednesday. The Bucyrus Fire Department responded to the blaze, getting the fire under control before the fire had spread to other nearby structures.

The Bucyrus Fire Department suspects that the fire began in the southwest corner of the garage and did $12,000 in damage to the structure.

The abandoned two-story house had caught fire in February. The Bucyrus Fire Department noted that with no electric running to either building that they are treating it as a suspicious fire that remains under investigation.

Both abandoned structures became city property on April 1.
