CRESTLINE —Firefighters from Whetstone, Jefferson and Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Departments and the Crestline Fire Department battled a house fire at 6143 Lincoln Highway between Beck and Biddle Roads Tuesday evening.
Firefighters were paged to the residence around 6:30 p.m. The person who reported the fire said that smoke was pouring out of the home and the siding was melting on the house.
According to Jefferson Township Fire Chief Ric Cochran, the fire started in the rear of the home.

“There was a laundry room off from the kitchen in the rear of the home and we think the fire started there. We were able to contain the fire to the rear of the home but it went through the upstairs and roof area. The rest of the home has smoke and water damage,” said Cochran.
He said there was a heater in the laundry room area but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“We are still investigating to determine the cause of the fire,” said Cochran.
He said the house may be deemed a total loss but an estimated amount of damage has not yet been determined.
“The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to firefighters,” said Cochran.
He said his department will be back at the scene on Wednesday to investigate the cause further.
