CRESTLINE — Randa and Hal Wagner were already in bed Wednesday night when Randa heard strange noises outside their home at 5923 Crestline Road.
“Hal looked out the window and our barn was on fire,” Randa said.
Within minutes, firefighters from Jefferson, Whetstone and Liberty Townships converged on the barn that was fully engulfed in flames.

“My husband has his shop in there so there are paints and other flammable materials. All his tools and lathes. We had four vehicles in there. We have one now that is not in the fire,” said Randa.
Randa said there was also a litter of kittens in the barn.
“They were in the loft so I am sure we have lost them,” said Randa through tears.
Randa said there is a chicken coup behind the barn. A friend later said that she saw the rooster and several chickens running around in the area behind the barn as firefighters battled the blaze.
The barn and its contents are a total loss.
“The barn was built in 1904. This is so heartbreaking,” said Randa.
Deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office were also at the scene along with Life Support Team EMS.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time. Firefighters were still on the scene at 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
