MT. GILEAD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On October 29 2023, The Mount Gilead Fire Department responded to a residential fire in the 200 block of W. Union Street within the Village of Mt. Gilead.

The fire tragically resulted in two civilian fatalities. The State Fire Marshal’s Office, in conjunction with The Morrow County Coroner’s Office, is currently investigating the incident. The identity of the victims is being withheld until proper notifications can be made.

Shortly after arriving at the fire on W. Union Street, a second residential fire in the 200 block of W. High Street in the Village of Mt. Gilead was received. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fires do not appear to be related.

The Mount Gilead Fire Department received assistance from The Cardington Fire Department, Big Walnut Joint Fire District, Perry Congress Fire District, I” Consolidated Fire District, Morrow County EMS, Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, and The Mount Gilead Police Department.
