A Galion family of three was displaced after an electrical fire broke out at their residence Wednesday morning.

At 10:40 a.m. four Galion firefighters along with Galion Fire Chief Phil Jackson responded to a report of an electrical fire in the attic at 315 East Railroad Street. When the firefighters arrived they found the residents outside and could smell something burning. Upon inspection the firefighters found smoke in the attic. Using thermal imagery the Galion Fire Department discovered hot spots in between the attic and bathroom walls. Once located the Galion Fire Department extinguished the fire in the wall.

As a result of the fire the family has been displaced from their residence until the wiring can be replaced and the home cleaned up.

An American Red Cross press release noted that volunteers Karl Schwechheimer and Laura Horning responded to the call for help at the home on East Railroad Street and provided the family of three with temporary shelter and assistance for immediate needs such as food and clothing. They also provided the family with Red Cross comfort kits of personal hygiene items.

Red Cross volunteers will continue to work with the family, providing additional assistance as needed and help with recovery planning including information, resources and referrals.

According to the report from the Galion Fire Department the cause of the fire is still unknown, but it appears that old wiring had overheated and ignited.
