Fire not only destroyed a garage on East Charles Street in Bucyrus on Friday morning, but it also damaged some surrounding buildings as well.
Captain Gordon Grove of the Bucyrus Fire Department said fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze at the building at 209 East Charles St.t immediately south of Baker Brothers Sporting Goods.
At the time he was interviewed, Grove said the department was still uncertain as to who owns the building which was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Estimated property damage is $24,000, but that figure could go up as investigators consider damage to adjoining structures.
The initial call came into the department at 1:09 a.m. on Friday. The first responders included three firefighters and one truck. Grove said a call went out to off-duty personnel and in all 10 firefighters were at the scene.
The Bucyrus Police Department were also called to assist at the scene.
Grove said two firefighters were checked and treated for injuries at the scene, but never left the area.
