NORTH ROBINSON — The Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department was the recipient of a donation following a fundraiser at Hannah Crawford Elementary.

The Hannah Crawford Elementary PTO hosted its inaugural penny war with students to raise the funds.

The war was Oct. 7-14 with each grade having its own container to put pennies into. Classes also were encouraged to bring in silver coins to put into other classes’ containers, which would subtract from that class’ total.

Some days, twists were added such as one day where quarters were a double-negative total. This allowed grades to sabotage each other in an attempt to win.

The first-grade class won the penny war, earning an ice cream sundae party from the PTO.

Those in attendance at the check presentation (pictured above) were (front, from left) Cammie Roston, Kinley Hoepf, Aubrey Betts, Hailey Starr, Ava Honaker, Owen Grove, Mason Batdorf, Kegan Choate, (middle, from left) PTO president Carrie Betts, Jefferson VFD firefighters Cody Knapp, Marcus Fagan, Ric Cochran, Mike Swick and Gordon Grove; (back, from left) Henry Clady, Liam Rehm, Laila Moyer, Addison Malone, Graysen Edgington, Edison Rasnat, Jentsen Landen and Alaina Parr.

Jefferson Township VFD received $1,773 from the penny war. Jefferson Township VFD provides safety instruction each year at Colonel Crawford Local Schools during Fire  Prevention Week.
