BUCYRUS—A family of eight, including six children, are without a home after a fire engulfed the house they were living in at 810 Wingert  St. Saturday night.

Bucyrus Firefighters were called to the property at 810 Plymouth St. at 9:19 p.m. but found that the address of the fire was actually on Wingert St. Several engines were on the scene for several hours, including the EMS truck, as firefighters battled the blaze that could be seen by residents from several miles away.

According to the Bucyrus Fire Department, a duplex was also severely damaged when the fire spread to that structure and a third home suffered minor damage from the heat of the fire.

According to the report from the Bucyrus Fire Department, the fire appears to have started in the garage area and the cause of the fire is unintentional but no further information has been released. The total loss amount from the fire has not been determined but included the garage area and two vehicles along with damage to the house and a neighboring house. No injuries were reported.

Machalia D. Durfee is listed as the occupant of the Wingert Street home in the report and several family members have posted pleas to the public to help the mother with items lost in the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the family temporarily and Durfee’s sisters have posted information throughout Facebook so that people can help the family, including sizes of clothing that they will need:

Girls clothes 2t/3t, 4/5t, and 14/16 or 18/20 or size 5/7 in juniors and med-lg tops

Boys clothes 8/10, 10/12 & 14/16 (S, M, And L)
