The cause of a fire in a mobile home in New Washington early this morning is not known and remains under investigation.
“Really we haven’t determined what started it,” said New Washington Fire Chief Dick Ackerman. “We know it wasn’t a lit cigarette because the family wasn’t home. All the breakers were intact and there were no broken windows.”
That fire was at Lot 24 in the New Washington Estates mobile home park. According to a volunteer firefighter on the scene, it is believed that the fire started in the middle of the living room floor. Ackerman said later it was by the living room sofa. No one was home at the time of the fire.
The extent of the damage to the mobile home is also not known at this time.
“All the damage was to the living room and the entry way,” Ackerman said.
Ackerman added he was still trying to contact the residents of the mobile home, although he was uncertain of their name.
