With the New Year will come a new face sitting beside the council president at upcoming Bucyrus City Council meetings.
The Bucyrus Finance Committee met Monday evening to seek legislation to appoint Kelli Tuttle as Council Clerk. Tuttle will replace long-time Council Clerk Regina Zornes, who has retired after serving the Council for over 25 years.
The Finance Committee had previously discussed setting Tuttle’s wages at $15.50 per hour for the first year. Council President Sis Love pointed out, however, that the legislation for the Council Clerk goes along with the Council. Therefore, the Finance Committee would have to set wages for 2014 and 2015 rather than just one year.
Love compared the wages for Council Clerk to similar sized cities such as Van Wert, Circleville and Norwalk. She suggested keeping the first year’s wages at $15.50 and increasing them to $16.50 for the second year.
“Their wages were all over $16.50 per hour,” stated Love. “I thought that was reasonable for the second year.”
The motion to appointment Tuttle as Council Clerk was passed unanimously and the Finance Committee will be seeking emergency legislation for the appointment at the Jan. 7 meeting of the Bucyrus City Council.
