The Wynford Board of Education held a special meeting Thursday night to ratify two new administration members. The Board will have its regularly scheduled June meeting at 7:30 p.m., on Monday.
Leah Filliater, a 1997 graduate of Wynford High School, is returning to her alma mater as a principal. Her new role as elementary principal will build on her already impressive career in Marion City Schools, where she has spent the last 13 years as a teacher, director of curriculum, and assistant principal. She was signed on a three-year contract.
“I’ve got kids in the district (Wynford),” Filliater said, “It’s a great opportunity for me to have an impact on my own community.”
The other appointee was Brenda Luhring, who will be stepping in as interim superintendent while Steve Mohr completes his recovery. Luhring is employed as the deputy superintendent of the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center. This group provides services to a multitude of districts spread out over six counties. They are headquartered in Tiffin, where Luhring maintains her office.
She has been a teacher at Seneca East, an adjunct professor with Ashland, an administrator (in various capacities) with NCOESC, and a Board of Education Member with Mohawk schools. She plans to be physically at Wynford a couple of times per week, and the rest of her work will be conducted from her office in Tiffin. She will continue in this capacity on as-needed basis.
