BUCYRUS – The Bucyrus Bicentennial Photo Contest is in full swing with FCBank taking the lead in making it “picture perfect.”
The bank, in honor of the city’s 200th birthday celebration, is sponsoring a “Selfie Contest.” They’re asking residents to take a photo of themselves in front of the mural at the bank’s main office, 105 Washington Square, and turn it in by the end of the month for a chance to win $500.
“We want to draw attention to the mural and get people excited about the city’s Bicentennial,” said FCBank President and CEO Jenny Saunders. “We want this contest to showcase the spirit of community pride and this once-in-a-lifetime event in a fun way.”
The financial institution, she said, pitched the idea to the Bicentennial Committee last fall, and the 18-by 18-foot banner featuring the “Community Unity” theme was unveiled in February. “They loved the idea, and we loved the idea. It’s a good way to celebrate in a very visible way.”
Contest rules require photos to be original and taken by the individual in the photo. Entries can be submitted directly to the bank’s community Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/FCBankCommunity, or through a form on their website, Saunders said. The deadline is April 30.
All of the selfies will then be placed in an album to be shared online, Saunders said, and the public have the opportunity to like, share and comment on their favorite pic, as well as what they love about Bucyrus.
The winner will be randomly selected from all the entries, plus the contestant whose photo gets the most Facebook shares between May 3 and 7 will receive $500 to be donated to a local charity of their choice, Saunders said. Both winners will be chosen on May 10.
“So, a person will win $500 cash and a charity will win $500 and all we’re trying to do is get people excited about the Bicentennial,” Saunders said. “We also want to draw attention to the mural and roll out the contest now that the weather is getting better.”
Saunders said the financial institution is excited to sponsor the contest and be a part of Bucyrus and its future. “This is a momentous occasion. We want to celebrate this history but at the same time let the community know that we’re committed to being here for the next 200 years.”
