BUCYRUS—The Bucyrus Fire Department received a call at 9:39 p.m. from a passerby who spotted a flame inside Stout’s Laundromat at 580 S. East St. on Monday shortly after the business closed for the evening.

According to Captain Ryan Sparks, the small flame could be seen behind a dryer.

“It was a faulty gas valve behind some dryers. You could just see a small flame,” Sparks said.

He said firefighters were able to access entry to the building through a side door on East Lucas Street.

“We shut off the gas to the valve,” said Sparks.

He said firefighters were only at the scene for about 20 minutes.

“The owner is Herb Jones and he came to the building to re-secure it for the night,” said Sparks.

Portsmouth EMS personnel and Bucyrus Police were also at the scene. No injuries or damages were reported.
