A mobile home fire in Galion Tuesday evening is under investigation, but what is known about the fire is tragic. A father and his two young children have died.

The fire was at 345 Second Avenue and called in just before 6 o’clock Tuesday evening.The structure was fully engulfed by the time fire department crews arrived and three people were reported to be trapped inside.

The Crawford County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and declared that 25-year-old Jordan Stewart and his 5-year-old son, Connor Stewart, had died there. A 3-year-old girl, Elizabeth Stewart, was taken to Galion Community Hospital by Galion EMS and she died at the hospital.

Galion Fire Chief Phil Jackson indicated there were no smoke detectors in the home. It is believed all three victims’ deaths were due to smoke inhalation. Jackson also indicated the cause of the fire did not appear to be arson.

Firefighters from Bucyrus, Crestline, and Jefferson Township aided those from Galion in battling the blaze. The State of Ohio Fire Marshall’s Office is assisting in the investigation of the cause and origin. The cause remains undetermined.
