MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On October 19, 2024, at 1:56 a.m., Mansfield Police Officers responded to a reported domestic violence incident at 200 Cline Ave. Upon arrival, they encountered a male suspect at the door holding a knife. The suspect retreated into the residence, which was occupied by his girlfriend and her two small children. The suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Hostage negotiators and the Richland County ASORT team were deployed to the scene to begin negotiations. Over the course of three hours, the suspect released the two children. Shortly thereafter, the suspect attempted to escape, resulting in a fatal encounter with officers.

The suspect’s name is not being released at this time.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office arrived on the scene to initiate an investigation. The BCI will be handling the investigation, and further details will be released as they become available.
