NEWS RELEASE:
On Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 0045 hours the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 cellular call from Lisa Stock (age 34) reporting that her house was on fire at 1990 SH 53, Tymochtee Township, Wyandot Co., south of McCutchenville, Ohio. Lisa was able to get her one year daughter, Alana Stock, out via a window but advised dispatch that she was not able to get out of the house herself.
Sgt. Brandon Kromer, a Wyandot Co. Deputy, was the first unit on scene and observed Alana standing on the outside of the house in the snow clothed in a diaper. Sgt. Kromer was able to get Lisa out of the house through a window and used his vehicle to provide immediate shelter for them.
Lisa then advised the deputy that her husband, Shawn Stock and their other young daughter, Avery Stock, were still inside. An immediate check of the perimeter of the house revealed that heavy smoke was coming from all the windows and Sgt. Kromer was not able to make entry into the residence.
McCutchenville Fire Department, Sycamore Fire & Rescue arrived on scene and attempted to make entry into the residence to locate the other family members. Avery was located by firemen and transported along with Alana and their mother, Lisa, to Wyandot Memorial Hospital by Sycamore and Wyandot County EMS units.
Shawn Stock, age 37 was later located by fire units in the residence and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wyandot Co. Coroner Dr. Joseph Sberna.
Avery Stock, age 2, was later pronounced deceased at Wyandot Memorial Hospital.
The cause of the residential fire remains under investigation by Sycamore and McCutchenville Fire Departments, the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office. Initial investigation as to the cause of the fire is believed to be from a wood burning stove located in the basement of the residence.
Assisting at the scene was the McCutchenville Fire Dept., Sycamore Fire & EMS, Carey Fire & EMS, Upper Sandusky Fire & Wyandot County EMS and EMA, NBS Fire & New Riegel EMS, Life Flight, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Wyandot County American Red Cross was notified and met with the family at the hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Engle – Shook Funeral Home in Tiffin, Ohio.
