LEXINGTON, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred late Monday night on Gass Road.

At approximately 10:14 p.m. on March 9, 2026, a 2019 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Gass Road between Lexington Ontario Road and State Route 97. According to troopers, the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle, crossing the centerline and driving off the left side of the roadway.

The vehicle struck several trees before coming to rest on the roadside, where it became fully engulfed in flames.

The male driver, whose identity has not yet been released pending further investigation and notification of next of kin, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gass Road was temporarily closed during the initial investigation and scene clearance.

Assisting at the scene were the Lexington Police Department, Washington Township Fire and EMS, Troy Township Fire and EMS, the Richland County Coroner’s Office, and Shelly Smith and Son’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
