UPDATED 12:08 p.m. – The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office released new information regarding a fatal two-car accident Saturday morning in Whetstone Township.

The report indicated that Sheriff Scott Kent and three deputies responded to a two-vehicle injury-crash at the intersection of Monnett-New Winchester Road and New Winchester Center Road at 9:53 a.m.

Forty-four-year-old Carol Mullins of rural Bucyrus was traveling southbound on New Winchester Center Road when she approached the intersection with Monnett-New Winchester Road. The driver of the other vehicle, 37-year-old Chad Carey, also of rural Bucyrus, had been traveling westbound on Monnett-New Winchester Road as he approached the intersection. He had been traveling with 36-year-old Melissa Carey, 56-year-old Frank Conrad, and five children ranging in ages nine to 16.

Mullins entered the intersection, turning east onto Monnett-New Winchester Road when Chad Carey struck her car. Both vehicles went off the southwest side of the road, coming to rest in a yard.

Life Support EMS transported Chad Carey and three passengers to the Galion Community Hospital for medical treatment while the remaining passengers were transported to the hospital by family to be checked out.

Mullins was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was also taken to the Galion hospital before being transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for autopsy.

Carl’s Towing and Bloomfield Towing were called to remove the vehicles from the scene. The Whetstone Volunteer Fire Department assisted in clearing debris from the roadway.

The fatal crash remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, though no citations were issued at the time.
