BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The seeds have been planted for Crawford County’s third annual agritourism event – the Farm Hop.
This year’s event is set for Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s a self-guided tour of family-owned farms designed to promote agriculture and connect the community with its agricultural roots and traditions.
“This event celebrates the diversity, hard work, and creativity of our small farms, where you’ll discover everything from fresh produce to unique products,” said Scott McKnight, who is coordinating the Farm Hop with his wife, Lydia McKnight.
The McKnights own a lavender farm, Abundantly Blessed, which is one of the Farm Hop stops. Each farm or homestead will offer demos or hands-on activities, Scott McKnight said, and those attending can sample and purchase products.
The Pickwick Place in Bucyrus is a newcomer to this year’s event, he said. “Having Pickwick involved will certainly be helpful in getting the momentum going, but obviously we’re excited about the continued opportunity to impact the community.”
An animal feeding station for children is also making its Farm Hop debut, McKnight said. In conjunction with the tour, the Earth, Wind & Fire Garden Club will promote their seed bank at the Bucyrus Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day.
For the first time, sponsorships are also being solicited from area businesses to help cover some of the costs and ensure the event’s success, McKnight said. Four levels are available – Sprout ($50), Harvest (100), Sunrise ($200), and Plow ($500).
By opening their doors to the public, he said local farms offer visitors of all ages an educational and immersive experience highlighting the rural traditions of this area, whether it’s picking produce or learning about sustainable farming practices.
He hopes at the end of the day they leave with a deeper appreciation for the land – and the people who care for it. “We really are just excited for people to come, meet and greet, and get to know our farmers and agriculture in this community.”
The Farm Hop will be held rain or shine. Free welcome guides and an interactive map are available online at AbundantlyBlessedFarm.com/FarmHop
