Crestline,Ohio -Firewood, tents, fishing poles, and blankets filled Lowe-Volk Park Friday evening August 4, as many gathered to participate in the annual Family Tent Camping event. Despite the wind and unusually chilly August temperatures, those in attendance seemed to enjoy every minute.

The goal of the evening was to provide a time and place for families to gather together and get away from the craziness of life in the great outdoors. Families could arrive anytime after 5 p.m. to set up their tents, but the event did not officially kick-off until 7:30.

The night was full of campfire festivities such as roasting hot dogs and s’mores. Yard games and sidewalk chalk were also brought to add extra entertainment. Many campers decided to go fishing around the pond throughout the event as well. Later in the evening, a family night hike took place through the woods of Lowe-Volk.

Heading up the evening was volunteer Rob Farson, who has attended many Family Tent Camping events in the past with his family. Farson explained the importance of the evening and why he and his family keep coming back.

“It gets families out, gets them outside. Away from all the electronics, away from all of the junk, and hopefully have some fun,” Farson described.

Farson’s daughter, Rebecca, explained that she has always loved attending the event so much, it has become her camping home.

“We’ve been coming for years… I like the family atmosphere. Usually, people here just want to have a good time and do camping sort of things. And they usually have good food…It’s the only place we’ve been camping outside of our yard,” Rebecca Farson said.

The Farson family was very excited to have another night to create lasting memories in the great outdoors with all families in attendance. Another family who decided to come out for their first Family Tent Camping experience appeared ready to have fun.

Rebecca and Kurt Somogye along with two sons Joey and Bob, said they heard about the event and thought it would be a fun, great experience.

The event concluded Saturday morning after breakfast was provided for campers. The next Crawford Park District event will be the Toddler Trot at Unger Park on August 9. The Water Carnival at Lowe-Volk Park will be held Saturday, August 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information on future Crawford Park District events, call 419-683-9000 or visit www.crawfordparkdistrict.org
