GALION — From Breakfast with Santa to the Polar Express Experience, Come Home to Galion will bring hundreds of people to the city this Saturday.
Miranda Jones, co-chair of the event with Sarah Capretta, said this is the seventh year for the Christmas event that includes a parade in which Santa Claus comes to town.
“The Galion Ministerial Association started the event years ago as a way to keep the faith and bring the community together,” Jones said. “The tree-lighting was the main part of the event and we still do that now. After the parade, we have the tree lighting on the square and everyone sings Christmas carols.”
Jones said several churches will be offering chicken noodle soup and chili on the square along with hot chocolate.
“It is entire event is created to be a free, family-friendly event for the community,” Jones said.
The event kicks off at 1 p.m. in Uptowne Galion with a variety of events such as cookie decorating at Cake and Icing, an Elf Hunt at the Galion Public Library and tours at Brownella Cottage.
The parade will begin at 4:15 p.m. and will travel through the Uptowne area on Harding Way East with the tree lighting immediately following on the square.

The parade brings Santa Claus to town and he will be in his house by 5:30 p.m. for visits with children.
Jones said tickets were sold out within 10 days for the Polar Express Experience which will feature a trolley ride from Harding Way in front of the Galion Community Theatre to the Big Four Depot Pavilion where refreshments will be served.
“It will loop around and drop off and pick up people with tickets until the Polar Express movie starts at 7:30 p.m. at the theatre,” Jones said.
