BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Families are invited to join the fun at the Elkhorn Lake Hunt Club in Bucyrus for the annual Family Field Day on Saturday, September 28, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This event will take place rain, shine, or snow, offering a variety of outdoor activities for all ages.
Participants can expect to try between six to eight different outdoor activities and have the opportunity to ask questions to experts in each field. Pre-registration is encouraged to streamline the check-in process, but walk-ins are always welcome. Parents or guardians are required to attend with their children, although older teens (15 and older) may attend with parental permission and a signed liability waiver. Suggested ages for participation are 8 and up. Attendees should bring a water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, long pants, and sturdy footwear. Non-swimmers are advised to wear a life preserver around the pond area. All necessary equipment for the seminars will be provided.
The day’s schedule includes a variety of activities and seminars, such as:
- Fishing for catfish, bluegill, and bass
- Archery Range, staffed by the Christian Bowhunters Association
- Shotgun sessions with Elkhorn staff and qualified volunteers
- Rifle range supervision by ODNR friends
Additional activities may include:
- Boat Safety (ODNR Division of Watercraft)
- Pond ecology
- Kayaking
- Turkey Hunting (NWTF)
To participate in the Youth Pheasant Hunt, children must be at least 12 years old, have a hunter education certificate, a valid youth hunting license, wear hunter orange, and be accompanied by a licensed responsible adult. A separate liability waiver/application is required, and participation times will be chosen at the event.
The registration fee is $5 per attendee, which includes lunch featuring the famous “Road Kill Stew” and wild game dishes. Please inform the organizers of any food allergies.

It is important to arrive by 8:00 AM for the general session, where Youth Hunt participants will be drawn, and groups will be divided. Latecomers will miss the opportunity to fill out tickets for drawings.
