BUCYRUS — Fairway Preschool is joining schools, early care sites, hospitals, universities, state agencies and non-profit organizations across the Great Lakes Region to celebrate National Farm to School Month by crunching into The Ohio State University’s Unger Research Farm apples for the Fifth Annual Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch at noon local time on Oct. 11!
More than 1.4 million students, children, food service staff, health care workers, teachers, and others are registered for the annual event, with Crunches occurring at more than 4,236 locations across Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana.
At Fairway, students will be participating in different apple craft and activities throughout the day in their classrooms, led by OSU SNAP-Ed Program Assistant Whitney Walterhouse. At noon the students, staff, and faculty will come together and take a crunch out of a locally grown apple!
This collective Apple Crunch encourages and celebrates the use of healthy, Ohio-grown foods in cafeterias across the state. We Crunch together to support our local farmers, to grow healthy eaters, and to build strong community across our state and region.
